Uh-oh, bad news for those waiting on Motorola's upcoming MPx phone PDA. Straight from some conference rooms in Seattle comes this bad news:
"How does the RAM break down? On the demo unit I saw, 23.79 MB of of the 32 MB is useable after a soft reset with 1.19 MB in use for storage, and 10.17 MB in use by programs. I'll do the math for you: that's only 4.37 MB free for storage and 8.06 MB free for programs. I was shocked by the 10.17 MB of RAM in use after a soft reset with no other software running."
Ouch. My h6315 has 64 MB of RAM, I have everything installed on my storage card, and I have just about a decent amount of free memory once the wireless radios load their software and I open a bunch of applications. I can't imagine anything less. As much as people claimed that the 32 MB memory configuration was meant only for pre-production units, it seems that the final models won't get any more memory.
This disappointment comes right on the heels of the device getting its FCC approval yesterday. Availability in the US is slated for sometime next year at this point, but with the disappointing specs and the predicted high price point, I don't see how it can be successful. That's a shame too, given the daring hardware design.
