After all, somebody has to point out the obvious!

The Receiving channel

Interesting. It looks like new content downloads are now handled through a channel I didn't know I had - the Receiving channel. It has a little animated antenna with signal graphic, and currently lists the two items downloading: the new watch face and the Sports channel.

Selecting the items shows you the download progress. I am at about 50% with the Sports channel, but the watch face is giving me "No Info". Apparently things sometimes take long, and the watch may even need to be rebooted to get everything to download properly. I wonder why there originally wasn't any Receiving channel for the first watch face from January. Or did it just complete so quickly that I never noticed?

Problems: (1) the watch band and buckle constantly pick up static
electricity, watch goes dead, and will not reboot; (2) metal watchband and
buckle are painful to open and uncomfortable to wear, and (3) content
arrives from MSN Direct sporadically or not at all.

Solution: Remove watchband and surrounding plastic with sheet metal
scissors. Open watch and insert ½ inch strips of aluminum foil (folded over
several times) into the connections beneath the inner screws on both sides
of watch see http://www.kstati.com/spot/abacus-inside.html. Fashion a piece
of strapping tape to cover the back of watch, foil strips, and sides of
watch when in use. Remove strapping tape, connect FM antenna to foil, and
select face/settings/signal strength (to verify signal strength) every
evening while recharging watch.

I now carry a modified watch in my pocket and have the "worlds smallest"
internet computer. Best of all, the watch will not go dead from static
electricity as long as the foil is covered. The only drawback to this
approach is that MSN Direct content will only be downloaded overnight, but
that is really not much different than the results you would get with the
original (static collecting) watch band and buckle intact. Note: I am
assuming that the MS Direct signal strength near the national mall in the
center of Washington DC is comparable to the signals in other metropolitan
areas.
